What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are a cosmetic dentistry treatment that can absolutely transform the appearance of your smile. They are among the most popular cosmetic options and have long been used to create gorgeous smiles for celebrities and public figures.

Veneers work by covering the visible portions of your teeth with a wafer-thin shell of porcelain. They are fully customized to accommodate the shape and proportions of your smile. Consequently, no two sets of veneers are ever exactly alike.

What kinds of aesthetic issues can dental veneers improve?

Dental veneers are an incredibly versatile treatment that can correct a number of cosmetic issues at once. That’s part of what makes them such a popular treatment option and an excellent return on your investment.

Some of the cosmetic issues dental veneers can correct include:

  • Gapped teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Discoloration that cannot be corrected with teeth whitening
  • Irregularities in the size or shape of teeth
  • Fractured or broken teeth

Dental veneers are most commonly placed on the top front eight teeth. If the shape of your smile reveals additional teeth, those can also receive veneers.

What is the process for getting dental implants?

The process begins with a dental exam and advanced digital imaging. If you have existing dental decay or gum disease, those issues will likely need to be resolved prior to moving forward with dental veneers.

On the day of your procedure, Dr. Witkoff administers an injection of numbing medication to prevent any discomfort during your visit. She then removes a small portion of your natural tooth tissue to make room for the veneers.

A set of impressions are made to guide the fabrication of your veneers. Next, a set of temporary veneers are secured in place to protect your teeth until the permanent veneers arrive from the lab.

Once your new veneers come in, you’ll return to have them checked for fit and appearance. Dr. Witkoff can make minor adjustments at this time. Once the veneers are cemented into place, your treatment is complete.
